This circa 1880 Tom Dunn long spoon is another great club! The finish is original and shows minimal use. The name stamp is strong. The horn, lead, and whipping are all original.  The head, which has more of an old school head shape rarely reproduced in the 1800s, measures 5 1/2" in length, 2" in width, and 1 1/4" in depth.  The 42" shaft is original, and the coated sheepskin grip appears old and possibly original to the club. There is a small crack at the bottom of the face, obscured by the scoring, and a small, relatively unnoticeable piece of the horn is missing behind the peg towards the toe, but these things detract very little from the club.

Born in 1849, Tom Dunn was the son of Willie Dunn Sr. and the brother of Willie Dunn Jr. Tom learned clubmaking from his father and started his own business at North Berwick in 1870. His career as a clubmaker and professional quickly took off. He worked at the London Scottish Golf Club of Wimbledon in the autumn of 1870, returned to North Berwick as the custodian of the links in 1881, and held that position until he returned to London in 1889 to work as the professional for the Tooting Bec Golf Club.
