This is a great c1850 lofter! The hosel measures a full 5" in length and is slightly thicker than what is found on Carrick or Gray irons. The face is nicely dished, concave from top to bottom. The 38" shaft appears to be ash with a tight grain, possibly a reshaft from when the club was in use. It's oversized sheepskin grip is original, and the club is heavy as would be expected. Made by a blacksmith from wrought iron around 175 years ago, if only this club could talk!
The hand hammered gutty ball shown for perspective is not part of this lot. it is offered separately elsewhere in this auction.
