Want to own a GREAT set of classic irons? These are them. You can't do better than the 1967 Jack Nicklaus VIP iron set by MacGregor. Jack Nicklaus won 7 of his 18 major championships swinging his 1967 forged VIPs with the bronze ferruies, crowns on the face, and "By Nicklaus" on the toe.  And the set offered here has it all: 1 through 9, PW and SW with matching numbers on the ferrules of the 1 through PW. The SW has a different number.  The 1-iron measures 39 3/4" and the 2-Iron measures 39 1/4".

The heads and shafts, which are "Tourney Taper" firm shafts, are in outstanding original condition, with the possible exception of an ever-so-slight slight bend in the shaft of the PW.  The leather wrap grips are original and include the grip collar.  All the ferrule numbers begin with "OS", which identifies the set as custom made by MacGregor. This is an outstanding set of irons.

Jack Nicklaus both designed and played the 1967 VIP irons from 1966 to 1976. The original prototypes did not have the crowns on the faces and he played with them in 1966, winning the Masters, and ultimately settled on the production model design with crowns on the faces in 1967. The 1967 model had a bronze ferrule. The early 1967 sets had "By Nicklaus" stamped in a large font on the back of the toe, which this set has, while the late 1967 sets had "By Nicklaus" stamped in a small font.  The heads on the 1968 VIP irons were the same as the late 1967 irons except they used a black ferrule. Like the late 1967 VIP irons, the 1968 VIPs used the small "By Nicklaus" font.

Talk about a beautifully designed, historic set of irons! Jack's actual set is on display at the Jack Nicklaus Museum in Columbus, Ohio. If you have not been, you should go!
