Walter Kempton Cannon’s British patent (No. 7,365) dated March 26, 1912 covered this iron.  The back of which is stamped "Harrod's etc. and "Prov. Pat."

According to Cannon's patent, his iron was not only elliptical in shape, it had a pointed toe located midway up the face so that both ends of the blade would be proportionally the same along the horizontal and vertical axis, thereby providing the club with better balance and the golfer with more distance and accuracy.
