This is the very driver pictured and presented in The Clubmakers Art volume 1 page 369. The last time this club sold was at the Jeffery B. Ellis Antique Golf Club auction held by Sotheby's in NYC in 2007. Its wood head is completely enclosed inside two different materials. The face is covered with a piece of white celluloid, and black vulcanite covers the rest of the head. “G. Charles \ Ealing G. C.” is stamped on the crown.

Vulcanite and celluloid were used to waterproof this head and increase its durability. Apparently, judging from the fact that no other examples are known, at least to me, this weather impervious wonder fell flat despite its attractive color scheme. Even so, it remains a very attractive club!

The club retains its original 43" shaft and leather-wrapped grip.
