In the world of cleeks, this circa 1850s example is a bit older than the Carrick, John Gray, and other maker-marked cleeks.  In addition, its 40 1/2" shaft with original sheepskin grip is longer, the 5 1/8" hosel is longer, and its sawtooth nicking is sharper that what is typically found on a maker-marked cleek. The grain of the wrought iron head, hand forged by a blacksmith, is also visible.

The fact that this club was made before cleekmakers had started to mark their work is another evidence of the club's major age - approximately 175 years old and still in outstanding original condition.
