Dating to 1912, this Turner Peggy iron is the very club pictured and described in The Clubmakers Art volume 2 page 394.. It last sold as part of the Jeff Ellis Collection at Sotheby’s in New York City in 2007.

The construction of John Turner’s Peggy Iron is quite involved. The Miralite insert, visible across the top and bottom of the blade, is keyed into the face (the back of the insert is wider than the front). The 28 wooden pegs in this insert are threaded and screwed into position, Pegs of what appears to be iron are located in the upper heel portion and the lower toe portion of the insert.  These plugs act as rivets, to help hold the Miralite insert in place.

Because the Miralite insert is light, the head is more heel and toe weighted.  The wooden pegs take a step towards giving the iron the feel of wood at contact.

The original 38” shaft has its original leather wrapped grip.
