Offered here is an important photograph of Bobby Jones shaking hands with J.L.C. Jenkins at Hoylake at the famous 1921 USA v. Great Britain International Match. This match, thanks to efforts from George Walker and William C. Fownes, was the prelude to the Walker Cup, which was properly contested for the first time ever the following year at National Golf Links of America.

Jones, just 19-years-old at the time, made the trek across the pond to play in the Amateur and Open Championships. The match took place on May 21st, 1921 at Royal Liverpool (Hoylake). Also playing for the United States team were Francis Ouimet and Chick Evans, who helped lead the US to a 9-3 victory. The match immediately preceded the Amateur Championship played the following week over the same links.

J.L.C. Jenkins, a member at Royal Troon, was the winner of the 1914 Amateur Championship.

This photo is a period example that was made by Bain from a duplicate negative. 5" x 7". PSA Type III, printed at the time of the event.
