Tom Morris won four of the first eight Open Championships. His son Young Tom won the next four. While Young Tom died an untimely death, Old Tom went on to become not just a revered and respected golfer and St Andrews personality during his own life time but also a revered golf figure for the ages. His legacy as the Grand Old Man of Golf continues to flourish today.

Offered here is a circa 1870 Tom Morris play club with its original 44 1/4" shaft and replacement sueded leather grip. The head measures 5 1/5" in length, 1 7/8" in width, and 1 1/16" in face depth.  The head is still in its original finish which retains a nice amount of luster.  The face shows the grain of the wood used to make the head, but is tight and even. There is possibly a small inconspicuous crack on the sole next to the horn. The Morris name is strong, as is the club.
