This fabulous 2-9 iron set of 1965 Arnold Palmer irons was used by Palmer, who later donated the clubs to the World Golf Hall of Fame, where they were on display for many years. These irons show good use and notable bag wear. These were in Palmer's bag for a while.
Arnold Palmer personally installed the leather wrap grips on this set. He would often build up and install his own leather-wrap grips and secure them with black electrical-type tape at the base, as is found on the bottom of this set. (When employed to appraise the clubs in Arnold Palmer's estate, I saw many grips he had installed that looked just like these - plus a big pile of old leather wraps he had removed!)
After his contract with Wilson ended in 1964, Arnold Palmer established his own equipment company, and the irons offered here are his initIal offering, produced in 1965. The hosels all match and are marked "03250". I believe this to be the 325th set of irons produced by his new company.
Every iron in this set had its own World Golf Hall of Fame inventory number taped to the shaft, beginning with 707 and ending with 714. And what shafts did palmer use in his clubs? This set used "Arnold Palmer By True Temper Charger X" shafts as is marked on the shaft bands.
