This was a photograph that we had to see to believe. Offered here is a truly historic photograph from the opening of Augusta National Golf Club in January 1933. The significance of that event, and the quality of the photograph itself, should in our opinion make this among the most celebrated golf photographs in the collecting hobby. 

According to the phenomenal press slug on the reverse, this depicts golfers and caddies on Augusta's 3rd green (now the famous 12th hole - Augusta's 9s were reversed at the time). The slug also discusses Bobby Jones' involvement in the construction process, and his collaboration with Alister MacKenzie. 

This photograph has a phenomenal press slug on the reverse, which schedules this photograph to be published on January 12, 1933 - the day before Augusta National Golf Club opened its doors. This also means the image captured on this photograph depicts golfers (perhaps including Bobby Jones partially blocked by a tree) playing the course before it officially opened for business. Surely one of the only such pre-opening photographs of golfers playing Augusta National in existence.

After three years of work the Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, Ga., officially opens Jan 13. None other than Bobby Jones, King of Golfers, was behind every blueprint and literally every shovel of dirt during the construction of the course. Collaborating with Dr. Alister MacKenzie, famous Scot Golf Architect. This photo shows the 3rd tee, with the bridge connecting the tee with the green. The 3rd hole is a distance of 120 yards and is a Par 3. For Release Jan 12.
