Marked with an August 15, 1898 patent date, this high grade unused "Scotch Haskell" bramble golf ball retains approximately 98% of its original paint and all its original luster.
Scotch Haskells were produced in 1904 by St.Mungo Manufacturing in Glasgow, Scotland, under license from the BF Goodrich company. The March 1904 issue of Golf Illustrated comments:
"St. Mungo have now completed arrangements to manufacture and sell a golf ball under the Haskell patents. The name of this ball will be the 'Scotch Haskell', and it will consist of the regular Haskell Patent Core, with a cover of their own specially prepared gutta percha. The Company are putting down plans to enable them to turn out the Scotch Haskell in large quantities and will be ready to deliver them to the trade by April 1st next"
This rare golf ball originates from the historic Frank Hardison collection. Hardison spent 70 years assembling one of the finest golf collections in the world, and his golf ball collection was second to none. Among other collecting feats, Hardison famously purchased the golf balls from the famed Harry B. Wood collection.
