9 Unused and Unpainted c 1890s Silvertown Gutty balls in their original Silver Town box. Gutta percha would be seasoned in the open air for six months or longer before they were painted. This allowed the material to cure and make the balls more durable against cracking apart. On occasion, unpainted balls were sold and then painted later. Such balls could be cured for much longer than normal. Solid gutta percha balls that were never painted are out there, but not so for a box nearly full of them! The lining in the box under the balls is not original, placed there only to help preserve the balls.
