Offered here is a 1996 Scotty Cameron Scottydale X-SLC in pro platinum finish made for Tiger Woods!
Vog says: There is so much to share about this one. Tiger won his first two PGA Tour events using the Japanese-market Scottydale XSLC after Butch Harmon called Scotty with a dilemma: Tiger was having a tough time squaring up his putter blade at impact, so Scotty sent him the Scottydale. After his second victory at Disney in September of 1996, (where I was in the Sunday gallery following Tiger) the long neck on the putter was questioned-was it conforming to the rules of golf? As Scotty legend has it, Tiger had sent the original putter back to Scotty, and Scotty sent him one similar to this-where the top of the hosel cup was shortened to ensure conformity. So the USGA never officially measured the putter Tiger used to win twice on tour. This was likely one of several that Scotty subsequently made for Tiger and is quite unique. Scotty mis-stamped his last name as "CAMRON." S. Cameron putters are fairly rare and in demand, but an "S. Camron" made for Tiger? Priceless. Finally, why the handstamped face? I can only theorize that Tiger wanted a putter with a lighter feel (and perhaps a thinner topline as well) and Scotty remilled the face to remove weight and then replaced the engraving with stamps done by hand.
Ex-Tiger putters, whether they are the famous Newport Two GSS "backups" or putters Scotty made for Tiger prior to his use of his long-time gamer, are extremely hard to find and have always seemed to be purchased by collectors as a "long-term hold." In fact, a made for Tiger putter like this is likely much rarer than a Tiger GSS backup, as Tiger's had that putter since 1999 and he only had 3 years of experience with Scotty's other styles prior to that! Checking my memory, I recall seeing exactly 8, pre-GSS made for Tiger putters that have hit the market in almost 30 years.
As a bonus, we have the old school letter of authenticity from 1998 signed by Scotty, admitting to the mis-spelling/stamping along with a new COA as well!
