Offered here is a 1997 Scotty Cameron Newport Two Tour in pro platinum finish made for Brad Faxon with a topline.
Vog says: Another incredible putter from the "Deep South" collection and has an old (OLD) school HANDWRITTEN letter of authenticity from Scotty to verify its provenance. Now, onto the putter. We all know of the famous "Faxday" design, made for Brad Faxon and used as his gamer for 15+ years on tour. I had the privilege to talk to Fax on the phone in 2009 when I was working on concepts for a second book on Scotty. One of the things he talked about was Scotty's work to get a putter in his bag-and this was obviously one of those attempts. It has a topline (not flangeline) like Brad's longtime gamer. If you didn't notice, while this is a carbon steel head, it's a Tiger head-correct neck placement, correct waterfalls on the shoulder. He also liked a lighter putter, thus the milled out cavity. This has simple, old school tour putter cool.
Collectors bonus: Notice that I mentioned this has a milled out cavity. Zoom in on the pictures of the cavity to see some telltale signs. Although I don't know for sure, the reason why oval shaped cavities became a "thing" as opposed to the cavity with the "ears" (think the original Newport) is they made it easier for Scotty for mill some weight out of the cavity to lighten a head. These milled-out cavities are hard to find, but I seem to spot them a mile away. First, look at the bottom of the cavity. a stock cavity will have the bottom on the same level as the flange. On this Faxon, you can see ever so slightly that there is a little "step." I think it's from Scotty not wanting to scratch the flange when milling the cavity-on top of it being very difficult to perfectly match the size of the original cavity by hand. Also, on this example, I think see the top of the cavity impact the topline-see how thin the strip of metal is between the topline and the cavity? That's from Scotty's hand work milling the cavity to remove weight. So, why is this important? Why does it get me excited? It's a sign of Scotty's work-by hand. Putters like this have always been hard to find-even more so now. I liken it to a Porsche collector coming across a vintage 356 that Dr. Porsche himself hand-hammered the fenders. That's what it SHOULD be like; we're not there yet as a collector's community, but I think putters like this are WAY overlooked.
Length is 35.75" black art of putting headcover. Has the original, old-school hand written letter of authenticity from Scotty Cameron.
