While this club is unmarked, it is unquestionably an old and exceedingly rare Gassiat fairway wood. Here are the facts. The original shaft measures 41 3/4" in length. The original grip is a pistol grip that matches those found on Gassiat-marked putters. The face shape and line scoring matches those items on a number of other Gassiat putters. So does the bore-through sole. Even the brass plate with the evenly matched pairs of screws matches the brass plate and screws on a fair number of Gassiat putters.
This club is still in its original finish, but has been used. There is a large piece of wood missing from the face, no doubt the casualty of a well-intentioned swing and deviously hidden rock... Club is so rare and so unusual for a fairway wood that it is well worth saving and the face repaired if desired.
