Early original golf photographs are rare. Many of the ones that do exist are “staged” photographs where the individual pictured is taking a rehearsed swing. There are not too many true action photos from golf’s earliest tournaments. This photo offered here is an incredible exception. This original photograph depicts James Braid putting at famed Muirfield during the 1906 Open, which he would go on to win.
This photo is a stunning piece of golf history. Making this even more unique is the note on the back with provenance of ownership tying back to James Braid himself! To think that this photo once hung in James Braid’s actual office at Walton Heath is certainly a goosebump-worthy feeling for early golf history collectors.
12 5/8 x 15 1/4 overall, with inside photo 6" x 8". This piece is 100% original in its antique frame. There is significant staining to the original mat, but the photograph is in Good condition considering its age.
