1940 PGA Championship
Contestant's Badge from Sam Parks, Jr.
The 1940 PGA
Championship was won by the late Byron Nelson. Presented here is an actual
contestant's badge from one of the players who unsuccessfully tried to beat
Byron Nelson that week. The name of the contestant that used a specific badge is
rarely known for vintage contestant's badges that have become available in the
hobby. But in this rare instance, we actually do know. Our consignor, prominent
golf historian and collector Mark Emerson, obtained this 1940 PGA Championship
contestant's badge (indirectly) from the estate of 1935 U.S. Open Champion Sam
Parks, Jr., as detailed in the letter accompanying this great piece.
