Scarce 1988 U.S. Open Golf Flag
For flag collectors, it doesn't get any better than this. This flag has long
been rumored to exist, but few examples were actually known. Without further
adieu, here it is - the elusive official 1988 U.S. Open flag from the Country
Club at Brookline.
In the 7 years since we started Green
Jacket Auctions, including a few hundred thousand dollars worth of golf flag
sales, we've never once had the privilege of offering this scarce flag. And
don't bother looking in the 2004 edition of Gilchrist's Guide to Golf
Collectibles, as this was the one flag where a photo was unable to be
secured for publication. Though the price guide did give this flag the
then-lofty price of $550, an extreme price in 2004 when the golf flag market was
still in its infancy.
The exact reason for this flag's
scarcity is not known, other than the obvious statement that surely very few
were ever produced. In fact, we're not even positive that this flag was ever
sold to the public.
The offered flag is in excellent
condition, and is certainly among the finest examples of this flag in the entire
hobby.
