Horton Smith's Tournament-Used
Original Spalding Golf Bag
Though maybe not a household name to casual golf fans, Horton Smith endures a
cult-like fame among golf collectors. The winner of two of the first three
Masters Tournaments passed away at the young age of 55 back in 1963, so his
memorabilia is quite scarce. When original Horton Smith memorabilia does
surface, it no doubt shocks most people to see it sell for record prices far
exceeding similar items of more popular names like Hagen and Jones. In addition
to our sale of Horton Smith's Green Jacket for the world auction record price of
$682,229 last September, we also sold a wedge used by Horton to a different
collector for $21,539. Both of those items came directly from Horton Smith's
heirs.
Offered here is Horton Smith's actual
tournament-used Spalding Golf Bag. This bag is being consigned directly from
Horton Smith's heirs - the same family that consigned us the record-setting
Green Jacket. Only a small handful of items have been passed down in Horton's
family for the past several decades, and this is the only golf bag in the
family's possession.
Letter of Provenance from Horton
Smith family.
