Scarce 1933 Augusta National
"Guest Card"
Offered here is a piece of
Augusta National history that we've known about for years, but have never
had the privilege to offer until today. You've likely heard that Augusta
National Golf Club struggling to find members when it was founded, as the
country was in the throws of the Great Depression. Well, here is an original
"Guest Card" that was presented to a prospective Augusta National member.
With this card - bearing a rare full-signature Robert T. Jones, Jr, stamp -
the prospective member was entitled to come visit and play Augusta National
(along with 3 guests) for $4 per day between November 20, 1933 and May 20,
1934. Historical Note: Augusta National first opened in 1933 and the first
Masters Tournament was held in March 1934.
With all of the rare pieces of Masters Tournament memorabilia that we've
encountered, this is one of only 2 original Augusta National Guest Cards
that we've ever seen - and this is the earlier of the two examples, and the
only one bearing the Bobby Jones stamp. Card measures 2 1/2" x 3 1/2".
