Circa 1875
Old Tom Morris Play Club
(Owned by Henry Lamb)

This play club by Old Tom Morris of St. Andrews bears a fine dark-finished head, and dates to 1875-1880.  Condition is excellent. The shaft bears the stamp for its one-time owner, Henry Lamb.  Lamb was known as a fine golfer and competitor. He is also known as the inventor of the compact head or Bulgar Driver in `1882. Later, Lamb served with the committee that ultimately developed the handicap system most accepted by the British golf community, and made significant contributions to the handicap system developed by the USGA.  This club has an unusually large thick grip, and is a museum quality example of Old Tom Morris’ craft.

Few Old Tom Morris golf clubs can be traced to a specific golfer who once owned the club. The fact this this club can be placed in the hands of a prominent member of golf history is quite significant.
