Auchterlonie Patent Flyer Gutty Golf Ball
Circa 1904
Offered
here is scare Auchterlonie Flyer Patent golf ball from 1904. The patent is for the ball to include a small free-floating weight in the center of the ball. The cover of the ball bears a design of "chain links" or oblong brambles. The idea for this patent by the Auchterlonies must not have worked well, as only a handful of examples are known to still exist. Originates
from the Frank Hardison golf ball collection. Hardison
assembled one of the greatest golf ball collections in history,
including his famous purchase of the golf balls owned by collecting
pioneer Harry B. Wood.
