This is Robert Gardner's trophy cup from the inaugural Walker Cup. Though it is now considered the 1922 Walker Cup, at the time is was called the British-American International Team Match. The tournament was held at famed National Golf Links of America. NGLA is famous for giving out these cups to winners of its tournaments, and this inaugural Walker Cup was apparently no exception.
Robert Gardner lost his first match when paired with Chick Evans, but dominated his singles match the following day - beating Bill Torrance 7&5. 5" tall, Sterling Silver (253 grams), engraved with Robert Gardner's name.
We previously sold Francis Ouimet's 1922 Walker Cup trophy cup for $52,995 (Summer 2018 Auction) and Robert Gardner's 1920 cup from the Walker Cup planning meeting for $25,600.
