Offered here is one of the finest Old Tom Morris autographed cabinet cards that we have ever seen. First of all, the cabinet card photograph itself is in high grade condition, and is one of the clearest images of Old Tom that you will ever encounter. This circa 1890s photograph was taken by famed St Andrews photographer James Fairweather. Even if this cabinet card was unsigned, it would still sell for many thousands of dollars.
This cabinet card is autographed by Old Tom Morris. In fact, Old Tom's autograph is essentially perfect - surely grading a 10 of 10. The reverse of this cabinet card is stamped "R. Foulis," indicating that it once belonged to Robert Foulis of the famous St Andrews golfing family. Robert Foulis worked as an apprentice in Old Tom's Shop before setting sail for America at the age of 22. Robert and Old Tom were particularly close, and one can imagine that Robert would've obtained this photo of his boss and idol prior to leaving St Andrews for the United States.
This is a large cabinet card, measuring 6 1/2" x 8 1/2", and it has been professionally framed with museum glass to 12" x 14".
