The 1993 Open Championship at Royal St. George's was perhaps the pinnacle of Greg Norman's Hall of Fame career. Greg Norman, with caddie Tony Navarro on the bag, shot a scorching 64 in the final round to come from behind to win the 1993 Open. It was Greg Norman's 2nd and final Major Championship victory.
Greg Norman received the permanent traveling Claret Jug off the 18th green that day. What he did next showed the type of boss Greg Norman was, and the respect he had for his caddie Tony Navarro. Norman immediately had the maker of the Claret Jug (Garrard's, the longtime keepers of the Royal Family's Crown Jerels) make one for his caddie Navarro. The customs receipt that is included in this auction lot is dated July 21st, 1993 - just 3 days following the final round of the 1993 Open.
Official Claret jugs like the one offered in this lot are almost non-existent in the collector market. Our only recent sale of an official Claret Jug is one that John Daly ordered, and it sold for nearly $400,000 in our auction last November.
This official 1993 Open Championship Claret Jug measures 14 1/4" tall on a 5" diameter base. The Claret Jug itself is Sterling Silver hallmarked by Garrard's, as are all 3 silver bands on the trophy's plinth.
Engraved on the trophy:

Thus official Claret Jug includes the original July 21, 1993 paperwork from Gerrard's to Greg Norman. It also includes the original box from Gerrard's.
