Offered here is a 1999 Scotty Cameron Newport II in pro platinum finish made for Tiger Woods.

Vog says: This putter is very interesting for so many reasons. It's part of the "deep South" collection, so this has been locked away for more than 25 years. We have the "old-school" letter of authenticity from Scotty (we have also obtained a new COA) dated 6/26/99, and will be provided to the winning bidder. It is the classic Tiger head-the same head as his longtime GSS gamer-except this is carbon steel and plated in pro platinum. It has the same set-back neck. It has the same flat front of the neck by the hosel cup-Tiger insisted on that. It has the rather steep drop in the "waterfall" (a term I have heard Scotty use) in the shoulders on each side of the cavity. While this is a Tiger head, it does not have the one-of-a-kind softening of the heel like Tiger's GSS. The fact Scotty's letter says this was made in 1999 puts it prior to Tiger receiving his GSS a few weeks before the US Open. I was lucky enough to follow Tiger around Disney in 1998-that was a year Tiger tried a lot of different putters, including Mark O'Meara's "backup" Ping Anser 2. At Disney it was clear he was using a Newport 2, and appeared to have Tiger Woods stamped on the bumpers like on his current gamer. Notice the 5 degrees of loft marking; back then the Bermuda greens experienced on the Southern tour stops had much more grain than today's hybrid strands. Many players would choose a putter with a little more loft in order to get the ball slightly lofted above the grain to have a better roll. There's one more thing....when I was giving the final inspection of this putter at Golden Age HQ, I noticed something I hadn't when we picked them up in our field trip. Scotty milled a little weight out of the cavity to remove some weight-it's ever so slight and can be most readily noticed at the base of the cavity. Also, notice the milling marks in the cavity-you see some different looking marks from Scotty doing the removal of weight. With this putter set at 35.75", I think a minor weight reduction was needed to get the swingweight right.

Any putter that Scotty made for Tiger as a backup (or potentially intended to go in the bag right away) is high in demand, and most collectors only know the GSS Newport Two backups. This pre-GSS putter (I believe I have seen no more than 8, pre-GSS, made for Tiger putters come to market in 30 years) should be as popular as the GSS backups. This one could be the centerpiece of virtually anyone's collection.

Length is 35.75" grade if 9 out of 10 excellent, with yellow circle T cover.
