This circa 1850 heavy iron is a handsome club. The head is large, with a nicely dished concave face and deep blade, measuring 2" tall at the toe. The hosel is meaty measuring 5 1/4" in length and .8475" in thckness.  The 39 3/4" shaft appears original.  Regripped with sueded leather grip.

This iron dates to the end of the feather ball period and would have been in use at the same time as the woods Philp crafted at the end of his career.  This iron couid also be classified as a very early lofter, as lofters evolved from heavy irons.
