Offered Here is a Bronze strike of a Gold Medal presented to The Royal Perth Golfing Society in 1838 by Duke of Buccleuch. The amount of provenance for this historic medal is extraordinary!
This exact medal was part of Harry B. Wood's famed golf collection and shown in his legendary 1910 book Golfing Curios and the Like. This medal was also exhibited in the Glasgow Historical Exhibition in 1911, and the program from that event states that it was loaned by Harry Wood. The medal is also shown in a March 26, 1909 issue of Golf Illustrated.
More recently, this medal was still in Harry B. Wood's collection when it was acquired by Tom Morris biographer and historian Peter Crabtree in the mid-1980s. It remained in Peter Crabtree's legendary collection until recent years. Included with this lot are numerous research notes and correspondence to and from Peter Crabtree regarding this medal.
