Historic 1911 Chick Evans Trophy
from inaugural tournament at National Golf
Links
This is a
wonderful trophy award given to Chick Evans for his runner up finish in the 1911
President's Cup, which was the opening tournament for members at the fabled
National Golf Links of America which opened just a few short weeks earlier. The
private club has been called "America's snootiest golf course" due to its
exclusive nature, and has been a fixture within Gold Digest's Top 20 courses
since it's inception. Designed by C.B. Macdonald, N.G.L.A. is regarded as one of
the most beautiful courses in the United States. Evans, winner of 2 US Amateurs
and a US Open, was a force in early 20th century American golf. This award was
won in the first year he played in a Major as a 21 year old. The box measures 5
1/2" x 2 3/4' x 1 3/4" and is silverplate. The scenes on the box are symbolic of
the clubs Dutch roots which are carried through in their crest.
