Circa 1700s Ivory Golf Ball
This solid ivory
ball was found in Scotland many years ago and is may very well date to the 1700's
along with similarly discovered balls made out of stone and wood from that
era. The theory goes that in towns such as St. Andrews, when the golf course closed for the winter, balls like this were used for indoor golf games where golfers would use
their golf clubs to strike these balls down long hallways. While it is impossible to date ivory with absolute certainly, only a couple vintage solid ivory balls are known.
