1929 Pebble Beach Bobby Jones Photograph
In 1929, and for the first time ever,
the USGA took one of it's national Championships west of the Mississippi River.
The venue would be Pebble Beach Golf Links for the playing of the men's Amateur
Championship. Bobby Jones was the defending Champion, the overwhelming favorite,
and had just captured medalist honors leading up to match play. This original
wire photo is dated September 1929 and depicts Bobby Jones leaning against his
trusty Calamity Jane putter. This photo most likely taken at Pebble Beach. Golf
historians will also note that that fabled 1929 trip is when Bobby Jones visited
Cypress Point for the first time and was amazed by Dr. MacKenzie's work. Photo
measures 3 1/2" x 9 1/2".
