Offered here is a circa 1890s Bussey & Pinder Patent Fork Splice "Bussey Driver." The head of this club is attached to its hickory shaft by a fork splice. According to The Clubmaker's Art, a "fork splice" or "v" cut is used at the neck joint instead of a more traditional splice neck. Overall very good condition with some surface scratches to the cherry colored finish, and a partially worn crown decal.
This club originates from the famed Jeff Ellis Collection, and this exact club was featured in his books The Clubmaker's Art (TCA 1, p. 136; TCA 2, p. 158). This club has not reached the collector market since its sale at the 2007 Sotheby's auction of the Jeff Ellis Collection.
