Offered here is an early 1900s Gibson design-registered Ridge Sole Iron. This club contains an unusual ridge on the sole of the club, which was intended to assist a golfer from hitting out of a rut or hole. Overall good condition with some nicks and scuffs. Stamping on clubhead is faint.
This club originates from the famed Jeff Ellis Collection, and this exact club was featured in his books The Clubmaker's Art (TCA 1, p. 269; TCA 2, p. 316). This club has not reached the collector market since its sale at the 2007 Sotheby's auction of the Jeff Ellis Collection.
