Offered here is are two circa 1914-1915 Charles Rolfe Patent adjustable law golf irons. According to Jeff Ellis, "these clubs are wonderfully made considering they were only intended for back yard golf using a lightweight ball." The blade could be adjusted to any desired left for either a right or left handed golfer. One clubhead is gunmetal, and the other has a nickel-plated finish. Jeff Ellis goes on to state that "these are the only two examples known." Overall excellent condition.
This club originates from the famed Jeff Ellis Collection, and this exact club was featured in his books The Clubmaker's Art (TCA 1, p. 137; TCA 2, p. 159). This club has not reached the collector market since its sale at the 2007 Sotheby's auction of the Jeff Ellis Collection.
